Start with phone permissions, then reconnect the robot's Wi-Fi.
For j7/j9 models, iRobot lists support for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. During setup, keep Bluetooth enabled, allow the app's requested permissions, put the phone on the Wi-Fi you want the robot to use, and follow the in-app activation step. If setup completes but the robot immediately shows offline, use Product Settings → Wi-Fi Settings → Reconnect or Change Product Wi-Fi.

Find where Wi-Fi setup is failing
Can the iRobot HOME App discover the j7 during setup?
Discovery relies on the phone being able to communicate with the nearby robot.
What to do when the j7 will not connect
Turn on Bluetooth and app permissions
Keep the phone near the robot and allow the permissions the app requests for setup.
Put the phone on the intended Wi-Fi
During setup, the robot is configured for the network selected in the app. The j7 supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz according to iRobot's current compatibility table.
Re-enter the Wi-Fi password manually
A single wrong character is enough to block setup. Enter the password carefully rather than relying on a bad saved value.
Use Reconnect or Change Product Wi-Fi
If setup completes but connection fails right afterward, open Product Settings → Wi-Fi Settings and run the official reconnect flow.
Restart the app and retest near the router
If the robot still will not connect, close and reopen the app, restart the router once, and retry with strong signal before escalating.
Do not factory-reset just because Wi-Fi setup failed once
A network or permission problem usually does not require erasing the robot. Use the reconnect flow first. Only follow a reset procedure if iRobot support or a specific ownership/setup error instructs you to do so.
Use these if the symptom is actually power or dock related
Won't Turn On
Use this if the robot cannot power up or respond well enough to enter Wi-Fi setup.
Not Charging
Use this if the robot cannot stay powered on the base long enough to complete setup.
