Begin with the quick checks. Stop if a step requires tools or experience you do not have.
To clean the Roborock S8 water tank, remove it from the robot, rinse it with clean water, and check that the stopper closes securely before reinstalling it. This guide covers the removable electric water tank on the original S8.
Start with routine cleaning if water has been left sitting in the tank or you can see residue inside. If your main problem is a dry mop during cleaning, also use our S8 not dispensing water checklist; tank rinsing is only one part of that diagnosis.
Before you remove the tank
Stop the cleaning run, move the robot off its charging dock, and switch it off. Work over a sink with the tank separated from the robot. Keep water away from the robot body and charging contacts.
Prepare clean water and a soft cloth for the outside of the tank. You do not need to open the tank housing, disconnect internal parts, or push tools into its outlets for this routine.

Remove, rinse, and reinstall the tank
- Release the tank. Press its latch and slide the tank backward out of the robot. Keep it level while carrying it to the sink.
- Empty it. Open the stopper and pour away the remaining water.
- Rinse the inside. Add clean water, close the stopper, shake gently, and pour the rinse water out. Repeat if you can still see loose residue.
- Inspect before refilling. Look for a cracked housing or a stopper that will not seat properly. Wipe spilled water off the exterior.
- Refill for the next mop run. Close the stopper tightly, then slide the tank back into the robot until it clicks into place.
What to avoid
| Situation | Better next step |
|---|---|
| Water is hot | Use cool or room-temperature clean water; heat can deform the tank. |
| You want to add a household cleaning mixture | Do not improvise a tank treatment. Roborock specifies its branded floor cleaner for use in the tank. |
| Residue remains after gentle rinsing | Ask support about the deposit rather than scraping outlets or opening the housing. |
| The tank drips after refilling | Stop using it and inspect the stopper and housing before another run. |
Check the result on a small area
Fit a clean, properly attached mop cloth and run a short test on suitable hard flooring. Watch for water escaping from the tank or pooling under the robot. A brief test makes it easier to distinguish a fitting problem from a problem that appears only later in a full cleaning cycle.
If the cloth still stays dry, record the selected mopping setting and whether water leaves the tank during the run. These observations are more useful to support than repeated rinsing without a change in symptoms. For the cloth itself, see how to replace the S8 mop cloth.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I clean the S8 water tank?
Roborock specifies cleaning as required. Empty unused water regularly and inspect the tank whenever you refill it.
Can I use hot water or vinegar?
Do not use hot water. The manual specifies clean water for rinsing; it does not prescribe vinegar or a descaling mixture.
Does cleaning the tank fix every water-flow problem?
No. A dirty cloth, an incorrectly fitted mount, settings, or a hardware fault may also affect mopping. Check the full water-flow guide if the problem persists.
