Roomba j7 Mapping Problems

Use this guide when Smart Map misses rooms, draws strange spaces, creates poor room divisions or sends the j7 to the wrong area.

Do not delete the map first.

Start by improving room access and running a clean mapping pass from the dock. iRobot’s own release notes show that j7 mapping behavior has been improved through software updates, so a fresh mapping run on current software can be more useful than immediate deletion.

Could the j7 physically reach every room that is missing or mapped incorrectly?

Check closed doors, cluttered thresholds and restricted zones.

Map deletion is a last step

Deleting a Smart Map removes your room divisions and zones. Rebuild only when the saved geometry is genuinely defective and repeated mapping runs do not correct it.
