How to Clean Roborock S8 Front Wheel

Clean the Roborock S8 front wheel and axle, remove trapped hair, dry the parts and refit them securely while leaving the wheel bracket in place.

Begin with the quick checks. Stop if a step requires tools or experience you do not have.

To clean the Roborock S8 front wheel, switch the robot off, remove the wheel and axle as shown in the manual, clear trapped hair, then dry and refit them securely. The omnidirectional wheel’s bracket stays on the robot.

This small front caster is separate from the two powered drive wheels. A tangle here is worth inspecting if you notice a squeak or resistance, but it does not explain every turning or navigation problem.

1. Prepare the robot

Stop the current clean, move the robot off the dock and turn it off. Remove the water tank and mop mount before turning it over. Use a soft surface that supports the body without putting pressure on the lidar turret.

Locate the small front wheel in the S8 underside diagram. Do not confuse it with a drive wheel or begin removing screws from the bottom housing.

2. Remove the wheel and axle, leaving the bracket in place

Section C3 of the S8 manual describes using a tool such as a small screwdriver to pry out the axle and remove the wheel. Work gently at the indicated assembly. The manual specifically says the omnidirectional wheel bracket cannot be removed.

If the assembly will not release with gentle handling, stop and check the diagram again. Do not pull the bracket from the body or use increasing force against the plastic housing.

3. Clear hair and rinse the removable parts

Remove hair and thread from the detached axle and wheel. Inspect the contact areas for grit and the wheel for damage. Roborock’s general maintenance guidance recommends checking that wheels move freely and clearing debris around them.

The S8 manual permits rinsing the removed wheel and axle with water. Keep that washing separate from the robot; do not rinse the bracket or underside of the machine. Dry the parts before reinstallation.

4. Refit and check the result

Reattach the dry wheel and axle and press the assembly firmly into place as the manual instructs. Check that it is seated and can roll without obvious obstruction. Do not run the robot with the front wheel missing.

Return the robot upright, reinstall its tank and mop mount as needed, and run a short supervised clean on a clear hard floor. Compare the movement and sound with what you noticed before cleaning. This comparison helps evaluate the maintenance result; it does not diagnose a drive motor.

If the problem remains

For persistent rattling, scraping or squeaking, follow S8 noise troubleshooting. If the robot takes unusual routes, see S8 mapping problems.

If the wheel or axle is damaged, confirm the exact replacement through our parts compatibility reference or Roborock support. A similar-looking caster is not proof of fit.

FAQ

How often should I clean the S8 front wheel?

The manual says to clean it as required. Inspect it when visible hair, grit or a new wheel-related noise appears.

Should I remove the entire bracket?

No. The S8 manual says the bracket cannot be removed; this procedure concerns the wheel and axle.

Can this fix a drive-wheel error?

The front caster and powered wheels are different parts. Follow the exact error and do not assume cleaning the caster resolves a drive-wheel fault.
