Roborock S8 Not Resuming Cleaning After Charging

Roborock S8 not resuming after charging? Check Do Not Disturb, manual docking, charging status and whether the original cleaning task is still active.

Diagnose before you disassemble

Begin with the quick checks. Stop if a step requires tools or experience you do not have.

If your Roborock S8 returns to its dock with rooms left unfinished, check whether it is recharging an active task or whether that task has ended. The original S8 can return for a battery top-up and continue afterward, but Do Not Disturb mode and manual docking affect that behaviour.

Do not force the battery low just to reproduce the problem. Start with the app’s task status, charging indication and the sequence of events from the last interrupted clean.

1. Check Do Not Disturb mode

Open the robot’s settings and review the Do Not Disturb period. The S8 manual says this mode prevents automatic resumption of cleaning. Its default period is 22:00–08:00, but your saved settings may differ.

If a long daytime clean runs into that period, the robot’s behaviour can look like a failed resume. For a useful comparison, plan the next supervised task outside the configured period or temporarily adjust the setting. Restore your preferred quiet hours afterward.

2. Check whether you manually docked it

Placing a paused S8 onto its dock manually ends the current clean according to the manual. That is different from the robot automatically returning for a top-up during an active task.

If you carried it to the base after a pause or error, do not expect the old task to resume. Review the areas already covered and start a new room or zone clean for the remaining accessible space. Check the selection before sending it out.

3. Confirm that charging is working

Leave the robot seated and check that the app reports charging and the battery reading increases over time. A robot that is not receiving power cannot complete the expected recharge.

If the reading remains unchanged or a charging warning appears, follow S8 not charging. If it struggles to reach or seat itself on the dock, use S8 docking troubleshooting. Avoid moving the station during a task.

4. Review what the app considers finished

Check the task record and selected rooms. A clean marked complete is not waiting to resume. An excluded room, closed door or restricted area needs a map or access check rather than a battery fix.

Keep a screenshot of the route and task status. For missing or distorted rooms, see S8 mapping problems. Do not delete a working map before checking the current selection and access.

5. Observe the next ordinary task

For the next normal clean, start from the dock, keep the route clear and avoid carrying the robot or changing its task while it runs. If it returns for charging, note the time, battery reading, app status and quiet-hours setting.

If it is charging normally, has unfinished work, is outside Do Not Disturb and was not manually docked, send those observations to Roborock support. Do not assume that a factory reset or battery replacement is necessary.

FAQ

Does it always restart immediately after docking?

No. A battery top-up takes time, and the current task status and quiet-hours settings matter. The manual does not give a universal waiting time for every job.

Will carrying it to the dock preserve the paused task?

The S8 manual says manual docking ends the current clean. Start a new selected-area task when ready.

Should I run the battery flat to test resume?

No. Observe an ordinary cleaning task instead and record what happens if it automatically returns for charging.

If cleaning never starts at the saved time, use S8 scheduled cleaning troubleshooting to check charge and task settings before investigating resumption.
