Begin with the quick checks. Stop if a step requires tools or experience you do not have.
Ecovacs T20 OMNI mapping problems can mean a distorted saved map, a room missing from the layout or a mapping run that never finishes. Before deleting anything, compare the displayed map with the route the robot actually takes. A changed room boundary and a blocked doorway need different checks.
Start here: save screenshots of the current map and settings, confirm the correct saved map is selected, and identify whether the problem affects the map itself or access to one area.
Identify the map symptom
| Observed problem | Next check |
|---|---|
| Rooms overlap or walls look distorted | Compare with the saved version and consider Restore Map. |
| One room is absent | Check access during mapping before rebuilding. |
| Quick Mapping is unavailable | Check that the robot is online in ECOVACS HOME. |
| A sensible map shows the wrong room selection | Review saved-map selection and area divisions. |
| Robot cannot return to the station | Check the route and station setup separately. |
| Map changes again after recovery | Keep before-and-after screenshots for support. |
1. Preserve the useful evidence
Take screenshots of the map, room names, virtual walls and scheduled tasks before making changes. Note when the trouble began: after a station move, a mapping attempt, a room edit or ordinary cleaning. This does not identify the cause, but it gives you a starting point for a comparison.
Watch one short task in an accessible room. Does the robot physically enter the area shown on the map? Does the app mark its position somewhere implausible? Keep those observations separate. A room that is selected incorrectly is not the same as a robot travelling to the right room while appearing elsewhere on screen.
2. Check the selected map and edits
Ecovacs places saved maps under Smart Cleaning > Map Management. Confirm that the selected layout matches the floor you want cleaned. Review area division, room selection and virtual walls before changing the entire map. Ecovacs specifically advises against placing virtual walls around the station.
If the layout looks reasonable but a single room task goes to the wrong area, compare the room labels and divisions with the physical doors. Correct one identifiable edit, then repeat the same task. Avoid making several boundary changes at once: you will lose the ability to tell which change affected the result.
3. Restore a distorted map first
For overlapping or distorted maps, Ecovacs recommends Map Settings > Restore Map. Restoration returns to a previously saved version. Its guidance warns that schedules and some settings are lost, and the 3D map updates, so check these after recovery.
The restored version also depends on your backup. Ecovacs explains that later edits need a manual backup if you want them included in a future restore. An older restored boundary therefore does not necessarily mean restoration failed. Compare the result with the version you expected to recover.
After restoring, look at the room outlines before starting a whole-home clean. Check your restrictions and schedules, then try the same small room used for the first observation. Retain both screenshots if the distortion returns. Repeating recovery without recording what changes makes a recurring problem harder to explain.

4. Prepare for a new mapping run if needed
If restoration does not resolve the map, Ecovacs recommends deleting it and creating a new one with Quick Mapping. This is a later step, because you will need to check the new layout and recreate the settings you rely on. Keep your screenshots before proceeding.
For Quick Mapping, Ecovacs says to open the doors to intended rooms, remove obstacles, provide sufficient light and start with the powered-on robot docked. The robot must be online for Quick Mapping in the app. The listed path is Smart Cleaning > Quick Mapping; wording can vary with app version.
Keep the environment consistent during the run. Do not close a door halfway through and then assume the missing room proves a mapping fault. Wait for the completion announcement and inspect the resulting layout. If the robot gets trapped, note the location and address access before another attempt.
5. Check the new map with a small task
Compare the mapped rooms with the accessible floor, then select one clearly identifiable area. Confirm both where the robot goes and how the app represents it. A successful small task is useful evidence that this area works; it does not prove every room or restriction is correct.
If it cleans normally but cannot find the base, use the T20 OMNI docking guide. If it reaches the station but gains no charge, follow the charging checks. Those problems can interrupt a run without establishing that the stored map is corrupt.
When to contact Ecovacs
If distortion returns after recovery or a completed fresh run, send support the old and new screenshots, app and firmware versions, any alert and a short account of what happened. Include whether the station moved and whether the same physical location triggers the problem. Avoid diagnosing a failed navigation sensor from the picture alone.
FAQ
Should I delete the map immediately?
For a distorted saved map, try the documented restore option first and check its result.
Why did room edits disappear after restoring?
The recovered version may predate those edits if they were not included in a manual backup.
Does one missed room require a new map?
Check the selected area, restrictions and open doorway first. Compare actual access with the displayed layout.

If Quick Mapping is unavailable because the robot is Offline, follow the T20 OMNI Wi-Fi connection guide before changing the map.
If the robot is physically trapped or reports a blocked area, use the T20 OMNI getting-stuck guide.
If the map looks correct but completed tasks omit a room, use the T20 OMNI missed-room guide.
If the robot specifically asks you to gently tap the D-ToF sensor, follow the T20 OMNI D-ToF sensor error guide.
